Same-Day Gamma Knife Radiosurgery at Queen Square Radiotherapy Centre

Advances in radiotherapy are not only about new technology, but also about finding better ways to deliver treatment. At Queen Square Radiotherapy Centre in London, an innovative same-day pathway is helping to make highly precise Gamma Knife® radiosurgery more streamlined for patients.

Entwickelt durch die Zusammenarbeit zwischen Amethyst Radiotherapy UK, University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH) und Elekta, the pathway brings imaging, treatment planning and Leksell Gamma Knife® radiosurgery together within a single visit.

By coordinating each stage of the treatment pathway within one day, the approach improves efficiency for patients and clinical teams, with the majority of patients able to return home the same day.

Precision through Gamma Knife radiosurgery

Leksell Gamma Knife® is a highly precise form of stereotactic radiosurgery used to treat selected conditions affecting the brain. Despite its name, Gamma Knife does not involve conventional surgery or an incision. Instead, highly focused radiation is directed at the treatment target while minimising exposure to surrounding healthy tissue.

At Queen Square, stereotactic frames support accurate targeting and treatment delivery as part of the same-day pathway.

Partnership supporting better patient pathways

Queen Square Radiotherapy Centre combines specialist clinical expertise, delivered in partnership with UCLH, with Elekta’s Leksell Gamma Knife technology.

The same-day pathway demonstrates how collaboration and technology can be brought together to improve the delivery of advanced treatment, making the process more efficient for both patients and clinical teams.

As part of Amethyst Radiotherapy UK, Queen Square is committed to advancing patient care through specialist expertise, technology and strong clinical partnerships.
