Júlio Teixeira Introduces New Harmony Pro Linear Accelerator at Hospital de Braga
Julio Teixeira has successfully brought a new Harmony Pro linear accelerator into clinical operation at Krankenhaus Braga, marking an important milestone in the ongoing development of radiotherapy services for patients.
Strengthening radiotherapy services in Braga
The Harmony Pro linear accelerator delivers a comprehensive range of external beam radiotherapy techniques, including:
- Dreidimensionale konformale Strahlentherapie (3D-CRT)
- Intensitätsmodulierte Strahlentherapie (IMRT)
- Volumetrisch modulierte Bogen-Therapie (VMAT)
These techniques allow treatment to be adapted to the size, shape and location of each tumour, helping clinicians target cancer while reducing unnecessary exposure to nearby healthy tissues.
One of the system’s key capabilities is VMAT. During treatment, the linear accelerator rotates around the patient while the dynamic multileaf collimator, dose rate and gantry speed are continuously adjusted. This coordinated delivery enables highly conformal dose distributions and supports accurate, efficient treatment, including for more complex plans.
